Welcome to the first month post-Epix and we've replace a whole bunch of newer movies with Frank Sinatra? There's also several films with Jack Lemmon, Gene Kelly, and Bing Crosby. Maybe if they did a film with Kanye West, younger people might know who they are. Haha.
A bunch of nice titles hit the first led by 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, and The Graduate, Perhaps this might be the first time for the former two titles to appear here? Also you got the first two Bournes and two bookends of the American Pie movies (focusing on the love story between the kid who messed with a pie and that one girl in band camp who...). Also appearing is Oscar winner Million Dollar Baby, which deals with the family we make for ourselves, and Oscar nominee Hotel Rwanda (how has Don Cheadle not won an Oscar yet?). Although there's some interesting new titles (Glass Chin, The Hacker Wars, A Necessary Death), it's the older titles that are more intriguing.
Take Devil at 4 O'Clock, a story of a retiring priest and three convicts who must lead kids with leprosy to the last boat to evacuate an earthquake. Then throw in Spencer Tracy and Frank Sinatra, and this one may be heading to the queue. Another interesting title is Carousel, about an abusive guy who cheats death for one final chance to make things right with his wife and newborn daughter. Did I mention that this was a musical?
Other titles with Sinatra this month are Pal Joey, Some Came Running, High Society, Anchors Aweigh, Take Me Out to the Ballgame, and On the Town. The latter three also star Gene Kelly while Bing Crosby stars in High Society with Grace Kelly. Yes, she's known for more than Monaco, my friends. Jack Lemmon appears in Glengarry Glen Ross and in the comic classic The Odd Couple.
Outside the first, it appears to be a weak month for movies. Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me (October 11) examines the singer's final tour after receiving a notice that he has Alzheimer's. Beasts of No Nation (October 16) received some rave reviews and if Virunga is any indication, might have a chance during the Oscars. Results (October 22) is a strange comedy that develops between a rich, divorced man, a gym owner, and captivating personal trainer. And August: Osage County (October 27) is a harrowing all-star drama about a strong willed family who learns truths about each other as they search for their missing patriarch.
Outside of those films, we got a lot of question marks. If they hold true, we will have a film about parents looking for their kids in a desert town (Strangerland; October 9). We will also have a horror film about the dangers of bringing people back to life (Lazarus Effect; October 14). Throw in a love triangle between an escaped convict, his girlfriend, and a lawman (Ain't Them Bodies Saints; October 18), a Polish spy who reports on Communist secrets for Americans (Jack Strong; October 24), a road trip involving two brothers examining the crime scenes of the Manson clan (Manson Family Vacation; October 27), and Sean Penn doing his best Taken impression (The Gunman; October 28) and things might look up.
But who are we kidding? It's about TV this month. Reign and The Vampire Diaries (both October 2) have new seasons available currently. Other CW shows making their way with new seasons include The Flash, iZombie, and The Originals (all three October 6), Arrow and Supernatural (both October 7), Jane the Virgin (October 12), and The 100 (October 22). If that doesn't appeal, maybe American Horror Story: Freak Show (October 6) might be more your speed. And just in time for Halloween is the third and final installment of Hemlock Grove (October 23). Binge away.

Anchors Aweigh: Two sailors on four days shore leave in Los Angeles deal with returning a runaway to his singer aunt; with Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra.
Any Day: An ex-boxer, sober and out of prison, finds his efforts to make a fresh start with a new girlfriend is threatened by demons of his past; with Sean Bean and Eva Longoria
Around the World in 80 Days (2004): An eccentric inventor and his valet start a journey around the world in 80 days to win a bet with the Science Minister; with Steve Coogan and Jackie Chan. (NO LONGER STREAMING)

The Butcher's Wife: A butcher from Greenwich Village returns home with a wife who impresses the neighbors with her gifts, but scares her husband; with Demi Moore and Jeff Daniels.
Carousel (1956): Abusive man gets one final chance to do right by his wife and newborn daughter. Strange topic for a musical; with Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones.
Cats and Dogs: A professor accidentally unleashes a war between our pets when he develops a vaccine that eliminates human allergies to dogs; with Jeff Goldblum and voice of Tobey Maguire.
The Chambermaid (2014): After witnessing an encounter between a guest and a dominatrix, a shy maid seeks the help of the call girl to help her shed her inhibitions.

A Christmas Carol (1938): Reginald Owens plays the miserly Scrooge who gets a supernatural intervention from his deceased partner and three ghosts who help him see the joys of Christmas.

The Otherworld: Director Richard Stanley (Hardware) takes sorcerers and psychics to a remote location in France that reportedly serves as a portal between our world and the supernatural one.

October 7:
Cheatin': A bumper car accident sends Jake and Ella onto a hot romance, but a plot rife with jealousy might cool things off. Directed by Bill Plympton.
Uncertain Terms: A 30 year old man is visiting his aunt whose residence doubles as a shelter for pregnant teens. Problems begin when he finds himself drawn to one of the new residents.
October 8:
American Heist: An ex-con is getting his life straightened out when his convict brother leaves prison and drags them in the underground for one final heist to make things right; with Hayden Christensen and Adrien Brody.
Strangerland: When the two teen children of a recently relocated couple disappear in the Australian desert, suspicions and rumors run wild; with Nicole Kidman and Joseph Fiennes.
Lou! Journal Infime: A teen girl spends her days eating takeout, playing with her cat and spying on her hunky neighbor. But things change when she finds her mother has fallen in love.
October 9:
Winter on Fire: Peaceful student demonstrations turn to a violent revolution and a full fledged civil rights movement in this documentary.
e-Dreams: Documentary focuses on the highs and lows of the dotcom frenzy through the rise and fall of the startup Kozmo.com and examines what happened to its founders.
The Five Venoms: Dying kung fu master sends his last pupil to track which one of his five former students (presumably called Venoms) has turned evil.
Crippled Avengers: Four male victims of an evil warlord and his sidekick son team up under the tutelage of a kung fu master in hopes of rising up against their venomous rule.
Masked Avengers: Three fearless martial arts fighters stand up to masked killers with vicious, gut shattering weapons
Return to the 36th Chamber: Small time scammer studies the moves of Shaolin temple monks to avenge factory workers who's been preyed upon by thugs.
Invincible Shaolin: An evil warlord who's jealous of the rising power of the Shaolin devises a sinister scheme to turn them against each other. As the body count rises, each side trains harder than before.
Five Element Ninjas: When five ninjas whose fighting styles are based on gold, wood, water, fire, and earth unleash their skills on a rival school, the sole survivor student vows deadly revenge on the quintet.
Robert Kelly: Live at the Village Underground: From New York, the salty comic riffs on favorite vices, family life, and farting.
October 10:
Around the World in 80 Days Special Edition (1956): Victorian era gentleman Phileas Fogg wagers that he can travel around the world in 80 days. In making the trip, he takes along his handy butler Passepartout. Interesting that they now have two versions of this tale simultaneously; with David Niven and Cantinflas.
Police Story: Lockdown: In order to free his kidnapped daughter, a police detective will have to endure a series of tests from a vengeful nightclub owner with a secret. Perhaps a remake of 12 Rounds; with Jackie Chan.
October 11:
Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me: The country music icon reflects on his long career and his Alzheimer diagnosis as he plans his final tour and his farewell to his fans.
October 13:
Pentatonix: On My Way Home: The a cappella quintet looks back on the road it took to get there as they perform songs on their sold out 2015 tour.
October 14:
Lazarus: You might remember this in theaters as Lazarus Effect. A group's research in finding a serum that can resurrect the dead hits a few snags, particularly when one of the group needs it themselves. They haven't seen Flatliners, presumably; with Mark Duplass and Olivia Wilde.
Suburra: See the movie before the upcoming series. A battle over getting a casino into a seaside town near Rome showcases criminal rivalries and corruption on a grand scale.
October 15:
All American High Revisited: Documentary examines the subjects of a 1984 documentary on high school seniors to see what's happened in the last 30 years. It's like a reunion, only shorter and not yours.
Djinn: After losing their infant, a grief stricken couple returns to their homeland only to find their new deluxe high rise apartment building is haunted by sinister spirits. Out of the frying pan...
Ferocious Planet: Group of observers to a fantastical new device that allows for glimpses of alternative worlds finds themselves fighting for their lives when it malfunctions and sends them into a nightmarish scenario. Never volunteer or observe experimental devices, people!
First Comes Love: Documentary examines the efforts of its director to become a single mom at the age of 41.
From Baghdad to Brooklyn: Documentary examines the efforts of a journalist to get a charismatic Iraqi refugee back to the United States.
Gardeners of Eden: The efforts of an elderly lady and some rangers to stop the lucrative, but highly illegal and harmful, practices of poaching elephants for their ivory are chronicled in this documentary.
The Guvnors: A family man returns to defend his former gang of soccer hooligans from a young thug who's picking a fight with them.
Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania: Woman in an arranged marriage falls in love with a shopkeeper's son while shopping for a wedding dress, but the father won't accept her change of heart.
Isabella Rossellini's Green Porno Live: The legendary actress acts out the mating habits of various animal species in this whimsical documentary film.
Katt Williams: American Hustle: Aspiring actor, disgusted with the stereotypical roles he's getting, decides to do stand up instead.
Katt Williams: Pimp Chronicles Part 1: Using an edgy style and personal experiences, Katt paints a portrait of life in black America.
My Monkey Baby: Documentary profiles several of the 15,000 American people who raise chimps as surrogate children. Obviously, they never heard that chilling 911 call from that one woman's neighbor.
Road: Documentary examines the Dunlop family, two sets of brothers proving to be top notch motorcycle road racers. Liam Neeson, with his particular set of skills, narrates.
Three Stars: Documentary spans three continents to find nine Michelin awarded chefs with the titular distinction to discover the business of cooking at such a high level (three stars is the maximum that can be handed out).
October 16:
Anthony Jeselnik: Thoughts and Prayers: The comedian and reality show host (Last Comic Standing) skewers taboos and riffs on tragedies before pulling back the curtain on his provocative style.
Beasts of No Nation: See this while in theaters. A young boy in West Africa finds that civil war tears his family apart and ends up joining mercenary soldiers and growing up in a hurry; with Idris Elba.
Circle: A group of strangers are kidnapped and placed facing each other as one person gets executed every 10 minutes. But the group finds out they can control who will live and who dies; with Julie Benz.
Gulaab Gang: An activist fighting for rights of women brings out a pink clad group of vigilantes, but she ends up locking horns with a shrewd politician.
October 17:
Z Storm: The decision by the wife of a rising star police superintendent to report his corruption due to being mistreated leads to the unraveling of a charity based Ponzi scheme that becomes Hong Kong's biggest financial fraud ever.
October 18:
Ain't Them Bodies Saints: Convict escapes prison and looks for his wife and young daughter, but his reunion hits a snag; with Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara.
The Tiger and the Monk: Documentary looks at Buddhist monks outside of Bangkok who lovingly and carefully raise 10 endangered tigers they've raised since cubs.
October 20:
Hungry Hearts: After an awkward meeting leads to a marriage, their relationship is shaken up when the husband starts questioning the parenting skills of his wife; with Adam Driver.
October 21:
Back in Time: People such as director Robert Zemeckis and lead Michael J. Fox discuss the film Back to the Future and how it went from being a box office hit to its status as a cultural phenom.
Mea Culpa: Police detective and his colleague try to solve a string of murders that lead to a lethal gang taking orders from the Serbian mafia.

The 100 Season 2: 100 space station residents must make the crucial call whether a post-nuclear apocalyptic Earth is worth inhabiting; with Paige Turco and Isaiah Washington.
A bunch of nice titles hit the first led by 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, and The Graduate, Perhaps this might be the first time for the former two titles to appear here? Also you got the first two Bournes and two bookends of the American Pie movies (focusing on the love story between the kid who messed with a pie and that one girl in band camp who...). Also appearing is Oscar winner Million Dollar Baby, which deals with the family we make for ourselves, and Oscar nominee Hotel Rwanda (how has Don Cheadle not won an Oscar yet?). Although there's some interesting new titles (Glass Chin, The Hacker Wars, A Necessary Death), it's the older titles that are more intriguing.
Take Devil at 4 O'Clock, a story of a retiring priest and three convicts who must lead kids with leprosy to the last boat to evacuate an earthquake. Then throw in Spencer Tracy and Frank Sinatra, and this one may be heading to the queue. Another interesting title is Carousel, about an abusive guy who cheats death for one final chance to make things right with his wife and newborn daughter. Did I mention that this was a musical?
Other titles with Sinatra this month are Pal Joey, Some Came Running, High Society, Anchors Aweigh, Take Me Out to the Ballgame, and On the Town. The latter three also star Gene Kelly while Bing Crosby stars in High Society with Grace Kelly. Yes, she's known for more than Monaco, my friends. Jack Lemmon appears in Glengarry Glen Ross and in the comic classic The Odd Couple.
Outside the first, it appears to be a weak month for movies. Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me (October 11) examines the singer's final tour after receiving a notice that he has Alzheimer's. Beasts of No Nation (October 16) received some rave reviews and if Virunga is any indication, might have a chance during the Oscars. Results (October 22) is a strange comedy that develops between a rich, divorced man, a gym owner, and captivating personal trainer. And August: Osage County (October 27) is a harrowing all-star drama about a strong willed family who learns truths about each other as they search for their missing patriarch.
Outside of those films, we got a lot of question marks. If they hold true, we will have a film about parents looking for their kids in a desert town (Strangerland; October 9). We will also have a horror film about the dangers of bringing people back to life (Lazarus Effect; October 14). Throw in a love triangle between an escaped convict, his girlfriend, and a lawman (Ain't Them Bodies Saints; October 18), a Polish spy who reports on Communist secrets for Americans (Jack Strong; October 24), a road trip involving two brothers examining the crime scenes of the Manson clan (Manson Family Vacation; October 27), and Sean Penn doing his best Taken impression (The Gunman; October 28) and things might look up.
But who are we kidding? It's about TV this month. Reign and The Vampire Diaries (both October 2) have new seasons available currently. Other CW shows making their way with new seasons include The Flash, iZombie, and The Originals (all three October 6), Arrow and Supernatural (both October 7), Jane the Virgin (October 12), and The 100 (October 22). If that doesn't appeal, maybe American Horror Story: Freak Show (October 6) might be more your speed. And just in time for Halloween is the third and final installment of Hemlock Grove (October 23). Binge away.
