Coming to Netflix Streaming August 2017

A tentative list of films and TV series that are coming to Netflix Instant to stream in August 2017.  Will update when I have the official list as well as any secondary findings:

The Astronaut's Wife (1999):  The wife of an astronaut notices some changes in his personality after returning from a mission; with Charlize Theron and Johnny Depp.

AWAKE, A Dream from Standing Rock (2017):  Documentary that focuses on the protests by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe against an oil pipeline that threatens the drinking water of millions.

Bad Santa (2003):  A small time criminal finds his scheme to rob a Phoenix department store blind threatened by a bullied kid and a woman who loves his Santa getup; with Billy Bob Thornton.

Below Her Mouth (2016):  The torrid affair between an engaged fashion edditor and a female roofer threatens to turn both their lives upside down; with Erika Linder.

The Blind Christ (2016):  Man claiming a divine revelation as a child treks the Chilean desert to perform a miracle on a badly injured friend in a remote town; with Michael Silva.

The Bomb (2016):  The explosive power of the nuclear bomb is illustrated using trippy visuals and music from The Acid in this animated documentary.

Boyka: Undisputed (2016):  Boyka takes on brutal gangsters to protect the widow of a man that he unintentionally killed in the ring; with Scott Adkins.

A Cinderella Story (2004):  Sam meets the boy of her dreams at a school dance before returning to work in her stepmom's diner, but can true love prevail; with Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray.

Cloud Atlas (2012):  Six seemingly disparate stories explore the complex links that humanity shares through the generations; with Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.

The Devil's Candy (2015):  Struggling painter moves his family into a house with a horrific past and finds inspiration with the help of demonic forces; with Ethan Embry and Shiri Appleby.

Everyone's Hero (2006):  Young ballplayer goes on a quest to return Babe Ruth's bat to its rightful place in time for the 1929 World Series; with voices of Jake T. Austin and Whoopi Goldberg.

Funny Games (2007):  In this remake, a vacationing family regrets their hospitality to two charming psychopaths who take them hostage; with Naomi Watts and Michael Pitt.

Handsome Devil (2016):  Self described outsider is sent into a rugby obsessed boarding school where he unexpectedly bonds with the star player; with Fionn O'Shea and Andrew Scott.

The Hippopotamus (2017):  To keep affording his boozing habit, a once esteemed poet investigates alleged miracles occurring at a country estate; with Roger Allam.

House on Willow Street (2016):  Group of desperate kidnappers learn the hard way that their captive isn't a damsel in distress but a demon; with Sharni Vinson.

Innerspace (1987):  A Marine pilot was supposed to be injected into a lab bunny, but instead ends up inside the body of a nebbish store clerk; with Dennis Quaid and Martin Short.

Jackie Brown (1997):  Aging flight attendant is caught smuggling cash and is forced to either spend time in jail or help with an investigation.  But she chooses plan C: take the money to go; with Pam Grier and Robert Forster.

Jessica Darling's It List (2016):  Having received popularity tips from her older sister, Jessica prepares to trek through the treacherous world of seventh grade; with Chloe East.

Karl Marx City (2016):  Documentarian returns to her former East Germany hometown to investigate her father's suicide and determine whether he helped the secret police in this documentary.

The Last Mimzy (2007):  Two siblings discover a mysterious box of toys from the future and start to develop some inexplicable, unearthly abilities; with Chris O'Neill and Rhiannon Leigh Wryn.

Lord of War (2005):  Ukrainian immigrant rises from two-bit thug to leading arms dealer, but he becomes aware of the cost of his profiteering; with Nicolas Cage and Jared Leto.

The Matrix (1999):  Computer hacker learns about the truth of reality and decides to join a rebellion to break free from oppression; with Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne.

The Matrix Reloaded (2003):  The rebels must protect the last human outpost known as Zion after the machines responsible for the Matrix discover it; with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.

The Matrix Revolutions (2003):  An unconscious Neo lies between the Matrix and the machine world.  Meanwhile, his rebel friends continue to battle for Zion; with Keanu Reeves and Hugo Weaving.

Max Manus: Man of War (2008):  Drama concerning Max Manus's decision to join the Norwegian resistance against the Nazis during World War 2; with Aksel Hennie.

Maz Jobrani: Immigrant (2017):  The Iranian American comic explores being an immigrant in the age of Trump as well as modern parenting pitfalls in this stand-up set from Washington DC.

Nola Circus (2015):  The growing rivalry between two barbershops in the New Orleans (Nola) area threaten to upend the lives of the owners, their families, and the city; with Martin Bats Bradford.

The Number 23 (2007):  Animal control officer picks up a mysterious book that seems to be based on his own life and finds himself obsessed with the number 23; with Jim Carrey.

Opening Night (2016):  Nick, once a rising star on Broadway, is the production manager for a new musical based on one hit wonders for rock music; with Topher Grace and Anne Heche.

Practical Magic (1998):  Two sisters are modern day witches whose love lives are hampered by a curse; with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

Sleepy Hollow (1999):  New York detective Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of beheading deaths.  Swoons and faints; with Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci.

Small Soldiers (1998):  The Commando Elite, a group of action figures, are released before being tested.  All is well until they decide to go after their rivals the Gorgons; with Kirsten Dunst and Gregory Smith.

A Sort of Homecoming (2015):  News producer is called back to her Louisiana hometown where the past and what ifs come flooding back; with Laura Marano.

Tie the Knot (2016):  To escape her overbearing mother, a woman takes a trip to Mumbai where she meets a doctor with her own family issues; with Tara Reid and Karishma Ahluwalia.

Un Plus Une (2015):  Womanizing musician travels to India to compose a Bollywood film score and falls for the wife of the French ambassador; with Jean Dujardin and Christopher Lambert.

Walking With the Enemy (2013):  Young Hungarian dons a Nazi uniform to save himself from the invasion and find his family, but stumbles across a terrible truth; with Jonas Armstrong.

The Wedding Party (2016):  A bride, a groom, and their entourage struggle to get order at a wedding reception where nothing is going right; with Blake Lee and Allison Paige.

Who Gets the Dog? (2016):  The divorce between a married couple turns ugly as they battle for custody of their beloved dog Wesley; with Alicia Silverstone and Ryan Kwanten.

Wild Wild West (1999):  Two top notch government agents are armed with an impressive arsenal as they are charged with thwarting an assassination plot by a deranged scientist in this wild, wild mess; with Will Smith and Kevin Kline.

The Founder (2016):  A meeting with the McDonald brothers inspires struggling salesman Ray Kroc to change the way burgers are made and sold; with Michael Keaton and Nick Offerman.

Jab We Met (2007):  Changing fortunes await a wealthy, but dejected industrialist who meets a spirited chatterbox on a train in this Bollywood romantic comedy; with Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor.

August 3:


The Invisible Guardian (2017):  An FBI agent returns to her hometown to capture a serial killer targeting teens and must deal with past personal demons; with Marta Etura.

Raising the Bar (2016):  A teen who gave up her spot in an elite American gymnastics program due to her family moving to Australia enters a competition to help a new friend; with Kelli Berglund.

Sing (2016):  Optimistic but broke koala hopes that a singing competition can save his theater in this film that also focuses on several contestants; with voices of Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon.

August 4:


Alan Saldana: Mi Vida de Pobre (2017):  Mexican comic Saldana explores such topics as the pressures of sitting at an exit row and maxing out his credit card in this stand-up special.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007):  Siddharth ignores warnings that his palace may be haunted until certain events occur that causes him to change his thinking; with Akshay Kumar.

Icarus (2017):  Documentary where an American filmmaker and cyclist stumbles onto a global scandal when a Russian scientists reveals some shocking details of a conspiracy.

Message from the King (2017):  Man from Cape Town, South Africa in search of his sister's killer infiltrates a sprawling network of lowlifes and elites in LA; with Chadwick Boesman and Luke Evans.


August 5:


Enter the Warriors Gate (2016):  Avid gamer is transported to ancient China where he must become a warrior to save the princess from an evil warlord; with Mark Chao and Dave Bautista.

Heidi (2015):  Curly haired orphan is sent to live with her gruff grandfather in the Swiss Alps and her optimism melts his frozen heart; with Anuk Steffen.

Holes (2003):  Texas detention camp residents dig holes each day to build character, but some start to wonder why they're digging them; with Shia Labeouf and Sigourney Weaver.

Lady Bloodfight (2016):  American travels to Hong Kong in the hopes of winning a lucrative, yet deadly underground female fighting tournament; with Amy Johnston.

Operation Mekong (2016):  Drug raid in a dangerous section of the Mekong River leads to multiple deaths which raises the suspicions of a narcotics officer; with Eddie Peng.

Sky on Fire (2016):  Security chief at top level medical facility must fight to protect revolutionary cancer research stays out of the wrong hands; with Daniel Wu.

August 6:


Jake's Buccaneer Blast (2014):  Jake and his friends take on Captain Hook in a race to find special treasures hidden throughout Never Land; with voices of Megan Richie and Riley Thomas Stewart.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Avengers Reassembled! (2015):  The Avengers race to save Iron Man and stop Ultron from using his armor to take over the world; with voice of Laura Bailey.

August 7:


Baahubali: The Beginning (2015):  Villagers in the kingdom of Mahismati rescue a baby destined to go on a heroic quest in the film based on S.S. Rajamouli's epic novel.  Available in Hindi, Malayalam, and Tamil versions (presumably to build up the title counts); with Prabhas.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017):  A young man leads an army into battle against a cruel tyrant responsible for his father's death.  Like its predecessor, available in Hindi, Malayalam, and Tamil versions; with Prabhas.

The Black Room (2016):  Couple's new dream home turns into a nightmare when they learn of an evil and lustful spirit residing in its basement; with Natasha Henstridge and Lin Shaye.

The Loft (2014):  Back!  The plans of five married men to rent a secret luxury loft to have extramarital affairs hits a big snag when a body of a dead woman ends up there; with Karl Urban and James Marsden.

Mission: Destroy Love (2014):  Two strangers meet by chance on a trip to Thailand and form a connection when they learn their exes ended up in a romantic match; with Bront Palarae.

Rumor Has It (2005):  When she travels to California to attend her sister's wedding, Sarah hears a rumor that her family inspired The Graduate.  Koo-koo-kachoo; with Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Costner.

August 8:


Denis Leary: No Cure for Cancer (1992):  Classic stand-up routine from Leary that focuses on non-smokers, vegetarians, and other undesirable people.

Nat King Cole: Afraid of the Dark (2014):  This documentary takes an in-depth look at the life and talent of the trailblazing musician who left an indelible mark on the jazz world.

The Transfiguration (2016):  Troubled, but self aware 14 year old New York who's obsessed with vampires and has a taste for blood seeks a chance for redemption; with Eric Ruffin.


August 9:


Black Site Delta (2017):  Ragtag group of inmates protect their secret military prison from terrorists interested in the secret drone research; with Cam Gigandet.

Flatball: A History of Ultimate (2016):  The four decade history of Ultimate Frisbee is shown in this documentary that also explores the New York team; narration from Alec Baldwin.

August 10:


Chocolate (2016):  Cop goes on a wild chase when a conman steals a ring given to him by his nagging girlfriend and hides it in a box of condoms; with Parambrata Chatterjee.

Demonic (2015):  An attempt by amateur ghost hunters to visit an abandoned house leads to disaster and questions for a detective and psychologist; with Maria Bello and Frank Grillo.

Desierto (2015):  Mexican man trying to reunite with his son and others attempting to enter the US illegally become the prey of a deranged vigilante; with Gael Garcia Bernal and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Diary of an Exorcist: Zero (2016):  Lucas devotes himself to fighting evil as a priest following a family trauma, but a scary exorcism places him against the devil; with Renato Siqueira.

Rama Rama Re... (2016):  Escaped death row convict takes a road trip with an old man on a personal mission and a young couple trying to elope; with K. Jayaram.

The Saint (2017):  Master thief Simon Templar is hired by a wealthy banker to find his kidnapped daughter, but there are twists ahead in the Saint's road; with Adam Rayner and Eliza Dushku.

Superstar (2017):  Media storm follows famous actor after being wounded in a scene where fake bullets were replaced with real ones; with Dhruvin Shah.

Naked (2017):  Rob is madly in love and about to get married.  Unfortunately, he's stuck naked in a elevator during a time loop; with Marlon Wayans and Regina Hall.

August 12:


Chocolate City: Vegas Strip (2017):  For the exotic dancers of Chocolate City, a grand prize of $500,000 brings them back together to a trip to Las Vegas; with Robert Ri'chard and Ginuwine.

Los Herederos (2015):  Boredom and peer pressure spurs a group of suburban teens to become violent and cross paths with their parents; with Maximo Hollander.

August 13:


Arthur and the Invisibles (2006):  Arthur, a ten year old boy, finds a world of little people living in his backyard which can help him save his family home; with voices of Freddie Highmore and Madonna.

Hot Property (2016):  A resourceful, flighty Londoner is willing to do anything to save her home from eviction and a greedy real estate agent; with MyAnna Buring.

Mission Control: The Unsung Heroes of Apollo (2017):  Archival footage and present day interviews punctuate this documentary about how the hidden figures of Apollo's mission control helped shape history.


August 14:


2 Alone in Paris (2008):  Bumbling Parisian cop is determined to capture the thief that has eluded him even when they're the last two people on Earth; with Ramzy Bedia and Eric Judor.

Banking on Bitcoin (2017):  Documentary covers Bitcoin's roots, its future and the technology that helps it tick with the help of interviews with enthusiasts and experts.

The Outcasts (2017):  Two misfit teen best friends lead a nerd uprising when their efforts to strike a truce with the queen bee fail.  Was made in 2015 for Clarius when it was known as The Outskirts; with Victoria Justice and Eden Sher.

Urban Hymn (2015):  Inspiring social worker tries to get a troubled teen with a painful past to embrace her singing talents; with Shirley Henderson.

August 15:


21 (2008):  Smart, poor student joins a brilliant group of students in a card counting scheme designed to make millions from Vegas casinos by playing blackjack; with Jim Sturgess and Kevin Spacey.

Barbecue (2017):  Documentary film showcases the cultural nuances and mesmerizing techniques in cooking barbecue around the world.

Brad Paisley's Comedic Rodeo (2017):  The country singer hosts this musical and comedic night with various comedians including John Heffron and Jon Reep.

Goon (2011):  A bouncer who kayos a rude hockey player in the stands ends up hired by a rival team to beat up other players; with Seann William Scott and Jay Baruchel.

My Ex-Ex (2015):  Recently dumped attorney hires a psychic to help her win back her boyfriend, but she draws the interest of another former lover; with Katherine Barrell.

A New Economy (2016):  Documentary examines companies and individuals building a new economy where bottom line isn't the only thing focused on.

Donald Cried (2017):  Slick New Yorker returns home to settle his grandmother's estate and runs into a childhood friend he wanted to avoid; with Jesse Wakeman.

Gold (2017):  Driven, hapless prospector teams up with a mysterious geologist in hopes of finding wealth, fame, and gold in Indonesia; with Matthew McConaughey and Edgar Ramirez.

Shot! The Psycho-Spiritual Mantra of Rock (2016):  Photographer Mick Rock reconstructs his journey through rock and roll history in this documentary.

Cop and a Half: New Recruit (2017):  World weary detective must team up with girl who wants to be a cop to solve a case baffling police.  Might this top the original; with Lou Diamond Phillips.

The Polarman (2016):  Documentary about an Arctic explorer named Peter Valusiak who braves extremely low temperatures to thrive in an environment where others wouldn't venture; chill.

August 18:


I Am Sam (2001):  Simple minded grown man raises his baby until child protective services question his fitness which forces him to hire a lawyer to fight back; with Sean Penn and Dakota Fanning.

Rugrats Go Wild (2003):  The Pickles family disembark from a broken cruise ship to meet the Thornberrys on an island where they're shooting a nature documentary; with voice of Elizabeth Daily.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004):  An interprid reporter and a top pilot team up to learn what is causing the world's scientists to disappear; with Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow.

What Happened to Monday? (2017):  Six siblings in a future where more than one child is outlawed try to avoid government protection while looking for their lost sister; with Noomi Rapace.

Hide and Seek (2016):  Germophobic man is living a comfortable life with his wife and child until he realizes his estranged brother may have committed a terrible crime; with Wallace Huo.

Camera Store (2016):  Employees of a camera store attempt to stay relevant in the face of unstoppable change and digital progress; with John Larroquette and John Rhys-Davies.

Unacknowledged (2017):  Dr. Steven Greer, noted UFO expert, interviews witnesses and presents classified documents concerning the existence of extraterrestrials in this "documentary".

Alive and Kicking (2016):  Documentary explores the personalities behind the continuing success of swing dancing.

Lynne Koplitz: Hormonal Beast (2017):  Unabashed comedian Koplitz gives the female perspective on going crazy, the benefits of not having children, and the three things all men want in this special.

Sadie's Last Days on Earth (2016):  High schooler Sadie becomes convinced that the world is about to end and decides to kiss a boy and win back her best friend before it happens; with Morgan Taylor Campbell.

Feel Rich (2017):  Musicians, athletes, and others advocate exercise, a healthy diet, and spiritual wellness to those of the hip hop generation in this documentary; with Common.

Drone (2017):  The comfortable life of a drone pilot takes a hit when he's confronted by a man whose family was killed by missile attacks in the Middle East; with Sean Bean.

Pygmies: The Children of the Jungle (2011):  Filmmaker travels to the Central African Republic to fulfill a childhood dream of meeting the enigmatic Pygmy people.

Behind the Cove: The Quiet Japanese Speak Out (2015):  Documentary by an amateur filmmaker that tells the rest of the story of the Japanese whaling industry that was begun with The Cove.

Berlin Syndrome (2017):  A passionate one-night stand quickly turns sinister when Clare learns she's locked inside her lover's apartment with no way out; with Teresa Palmer.

Death Note (2017):  Light finds a supernatural notebook and uses it to mete out death, drawing the attention of a demon, a detective, and a girl from his class; with Nat Wolff and Willem Dafoe.

Pekak (2016):  Rebellious teen befriends a deaf drug dealer who's saving up for cochlear implants in an attempt to escape her tyrannical father; with Zahiril Adzim.

Close Your Eyes Before It's Dark Season 1 (2016):  Group of longtime friends uncovers an old scandal while on vacation and find their lives in danger; with Bryan Shu-Hao Chang.

Cop Watchers (2016):  Documentary examines people who seek to deter police brutality by observing and filming arrests made by the NYPD.

Crematorio Season 1 (2011):  Ruthless real estate developer deals with family drama, betrayals, and fallout from shady deals as his empire goes under attack; with Jose Sancho.

Death Row Stories Season 2 (2015):  In this true crime series, the focus is on convicted criminals on death row who may unfairly be there due to circumstances outside their control.

Entangled Season 1 (2014):  The children of two families become friends and unravel a horrific crime from the past that has previously entangled their fathers; with Thomas Ong.

    The Mist is a Netflix Original worldwide except for the US. In the US, Netflix has streaming rights to the series sometimes after it plays on Spike TV. Doubtful we will see anything in the US until 2018. Also, first season has been panned widely by critics; probably will not have a second season.
