The End

Coming to Netflix on February 2016

At first glance, February sounds a lot like January with a low amount of new titles that people have heard of and a lot of older titles.  But I do see some hopeful signs this month that things are slowly turning in the right direction.

The first has already brought us some films that will warm the chill out of the February nights.  Action films such as Armageddon, Charlie's Angels, Collateral Damage, The Hunted, and Night Watch that will quicken the pulses.  Later on in the month, all eyes are on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (February 26) as it attempts to hopefully put a better face on Netflix original films after the popular but critically reviled Ridiculous 6 fiasco.

In need of laughs?  Both Bill and Teds are streaming as are both Scooby-Doo films (eh), Johnny English (OK) and Talladega Nights (decent, actually).  The Irish side of me would be ashamed that I've yet to see Waking Ned Devine (today).  I Love You, Phillip Morris (February 3) is an oddball romantic comedy between Jim Carrey as a cop turned con and Ewan McGregor as his true love.  Hannibal Burress, probably best known as the comedian who revealed Bill Cosby's secret issues, has his own stand up special to prove he's much more than that (February 5).  There's the too late for Valentine's Day but that might be OK anyway Love (February 19), with Paul Rust and Gillian Jacobs (Community).  And there's always the safe as milk reboot of Fuller House to come home to if you're looking for something more family friendly (February 26).

Maybe Drama's more your thing?  The first allows us to re-see Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket as well as the saucy Cruel Intentions, the searing Losing Isaiah, the charming The Saint, and the dark Sin City.  Beyond that, we have the Oscar nominated Atonement (February 16) as well as the intriguing Railway Man (February 11), the steamy Love (February 4), and the gritty Lila and Eve (February 6).  But for some, the independent Dope (February 10) may be just the ticket as a clean cut senior is befriended by a local drug dealer.

And for those who just like the offbeat, today gives us the critically acclaimed Charlie's Country and the popular in Norway The Heavy Water War.  And if you didn't know, if it can play Oslo, it can play anywhere.  Also pleased to see the welcome return of Stranger by the Lake which I was this close to streaming last time.  No excuses, now.  Further on, we have Oscar nominated Documentary Finding Vivian Maier (February 27) and Ashes and Embers (February 29) which is a 1982 film that's being restored prior to being screened in theaters and shortly thereafter here.  If you liked Chef's Table, then odds are that you'll liked Cooked (February 19) as well.  Face of Love (February 13) sounds like one strange romance story as a widower romances a new boyfriend who looks almost exactly like her former husband.  And Experimenter (February 4) is based on real life experiments where average people can cause pain to strangers.  Sounds like a good warm-up to when they do release The Stanford Prison Experiment movie here.

Anyway, have a great streaming time!
